About Us
A biography of The Milestones tends to read like a roll call of some of the greatest names in the modern era of music...
Band leaders Max Grunhard and Scott Baylis have over the years firmly established themselves as two of the most in demand horn players in the UK. Max's journey started when he made his way to London from Australia and met Scott who by the age of 22 had already been playing live for 10 years, a prodigious young Berklee trained musician. Together the guys have performed with the likes of Herbie Hancock, Roy Ayers, Quantic Soul Orchestra and most recently performed with Prince at his ground breaking run of O2 Arena shows.
The band's vocals are catered for by two exceptional talents. Verna Francis and Gavin Lodge have experiences totalling 30 years plus between them. Gavin is regarded as one of the foremost soul voices on the London scene. Complimenting him Verna comes from a background in stage, song and dance. Most recently she appeared for 2 straight years in the West End production of 'Fame' and 'Songbook of Motown'. With Neneh Cherry and Ronnie Laws on her list of recording credits, her quality is indisputable.
As we move into the rhythm section the band again excels in quality. From Julian Burdock on guitar to John McKenzie on bass to Jose Joyette on drums their experience is exemplary. Julian has live credits with The Stylistics, Beverly Knight, Rose Royce and Jocelyn Brown. John has earned his tag as a legend amongst musicians by recording and performing with the likes of Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Tina Turner and Terence Trent D'arby to name just a few. Although one of the band's youngest members, Jose on drums is already a veteran of the London scene. As Craig David goes from strength to strength you'll see Jose banging the drums.
